Thailand is easing its Covid-19 restrictions further, effective on 1 May 2022 onwards for boosting the economy. Let’s take a look what the updates are.

The new rules still require all travellers to register on the Thailand Pass app (https://tp.consular.go.th/) despite the ease of measures.

ease of entry measures (by air)

  • For fully vaccinated persons, COVID-19 test is no longer needed (both prior to and after arriving in Thailand). Certificate of vaccination is required instead.

  • For unvaccinated/ not fully vaccinated persons, if they can provide a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours before travelling, they will be exempted from quarantine.

  • The “Test & Go” scheme is removed. It’s a scheme where arrivals must wait in hotel quarantine for the result of a RT-PCR Covid-19 test.

  • The health insurance coverage is lowered to US$10,000 (instead of US$20,000).

  • All travellers are still required to register on Thailand Pass and submit the required documents/ proofs.

quarantine

For unvaccinated/ not fully vaccinated persons and do not take any RT-PCR test before traveling or wish to be quarantined, they have to undergo a five-day quarantine and undergo a RT-PCR test on day 4 - 5 in Thailand during the quarantine.

Resume of activities

  • Serving of alcoholic beverages at restaurants is extended from 11pm to midnight.

  • As international borders are gradually reopening, some airlines are planning to resume their operations to popular destinations. Thai AirAsia X will return to fly from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to Seoul (thrice weekly) and Tokyo (four times weekly).
